Default When did Bonanza change their fees?

I sold something on Bonanza for the first time in a long time. They charged me $3 for a $50 sale. Holy cow! When did that change?

I'm not sure. I just looked at my account for the last 4 months and it looks like whenever I sold something under $199 I was charged $5 and under $899 it was $10. I'm not sure what the exact fee chart is though or know when they started it.. I thought they always had some fees, just not as extreme as eBay.

EDIT: That month I was charged $10 it was for 2 items... so maybe it's just a flat $5 fee once you get over a certain amount

I think anything over $100 is $5? At least that is what I have experienced. I listed an item, that never sold, on ebay and it cost me $2!

I was just shocked when I saw they charged me $3. I thought it was going to be like $1. I guess they are still cheaper than ebay.

Oh dear, I just found this:

Guaranteed to not to change through 2011 and 2012

Our pricing is effective July 1st, 2011 for new merchants and takes effect September 1st, 2011 for existing merchants (existing merchants can see our legacy pricing here).

All prices below are based on the Final Offer Value (FOV). This is the final price paid to you by a buyer, minus a shipping fee exemption of up to $10. See examples below if you have questions. Or, learn how to pay your fees.
    Bonanza Fee Table

See above for a definition of FOV.
FOV under $500 3.5% of FOV
    FOV greater than $500 $17.50 + 1.5% of the amount over $500

    $0.50 cent minimum fee.
    Pricing Examples

You sell a $2 item. Although $2 x 3.5% = $0.07 you still owe $0.50 as that is the minimum on any item.
A buyer buys three of your items for $109 after shipping. The total shipping for the offer is $14, of which $10 is deducted. So your FOV is $109-$10 = $99. Your fee is then 3.5% of $99, or $3.47
You sell one item for $750 with free shipping. You owe 3.5% on the first $500 ($17.50) and 1.5% on the remaining $250 ($3.75) for a total of $21.25.

I guess since I am already a seller that means these new fees won't apply to me until September. So what I just sold is on the old fee schedule.

All prices below are based on the Final Offer Value (FOV). This is the price of your accepted offer, plus any shipping for the offer, that exceeds $10. See examples below if you have questions. Or, learn how to pay your fees.
    Final Offer Value 1 Fee
    Less than $10 $0.50
    Less than $50 $1
    Less than $100 $3
    Less than $1000 $5
    $1000 or more $10
1 Whether a buyer wants to buy one or more of your items, they are sold as part of an offer, so our fees are per offer that you accept. Thus, you only pay when you sell items.
Still shocked though. I don't remember it costing that much. But I guess it will start costing you WAY more if you are selling high ticket items. :/

Holy crap not happy about this! Why doesn't the buyer pay for fees, like why can't they just add it in there when checking out.. I don't know, just kinda bummed out now. I mean the only reason why I listed my items on there is because it's free to, which is awesome but at the same time I rarely sell anything on there. eBay gets more traffic.

WOW!! I guess I need to sell all I can on there before Sept. 1!
Did they send an email or anything notifying us of these changes?

Wow so they're going to charge $17.50 for anything $500, PLUS a % of anything over?! That's INSANE! Especially since you get money taken out of your sale from PayPal... I feel like this is higher than eBay now.

Okay, so I did the math. If what you are selling is under $145, then the fee isn't such a bad deal. At $145, the fee is ~ $5 and then it goes up from there. Like my $50 item that I sold would have a $1.75 fee instead of the $3 fee on the old schedule. But if you sold something like Jennifer's $199 item, then the fee would be $6.97 instead of $5. The high ticket items are the ones that are going to hurt you. So if you're selling a Balenciaga on there for say $1000, it will cost $50 and, well, you're screwed.

    Doing some research...

On ebay, let's say you are selling a Balenciaga for $1000 and you use the Buy It Now option. So that's $0.50 for the insertion fee. Then there is 10% of the first $50 and then 8% for everything over that. So wait... then that would be $81.50...

    Did I read that right?

Yes. Ebay fees are way higher than Bonanza. I was wondering when Bonz would raise their fees...it was only a matter of time. It is still better than trying to consign, tho.

3.5% isn't that bad. I've seen a lot worse. Amazon is 15% in some ares. Ioffer was like 10 or 15% even though they were saying in there fees area that it was a different amount. I just can't do bonanza because I don't use paypal and I'm not a business so I can't use amazon or google checkout. *sigh*
