    Default Is It Real?

OK well I wanted to start this thread so that experienced ebayers can tell us how to tell if an auction is real. Like I could go to ebay, throw up an auction with a fake picture and get people to pay me, then send them nothing or something really cheap.

So how can we tell if they auction is a real auction?
Also how can you tell a real designer handbag from a fake one? I saw the big thread above about how some possible fakes, but how can you tell the difference?

You have to look at the feedback from the seller. If they have a lot of points and positive feedback, chances are they're selling the real thing. Then again, if they mostly sell electronics and are selling an LV or Chanel, you might want to have the bag authenticated here.

People who have really good descriptions of their bags, a lot of pictures, and good feedback are usually the ones to trust. MPRS sellers always sell authentic bags.

Everyone here would be more than happy to help authenticate a bag you have a question about.

Yes your right the feedback and pictures have a lot to do with the transaction. Also always ask lots of questions.

Don't forget to look at whether or not their activity has been consistent. Person with 100% positive feedback with several hundred feedbacks that mostly sold, say, electronics. They were inactive for over a year and then they are suddenly selling a boatload of designer handbags. This could potentially be a huge red flag. The person's account could have been hijacked and the auctions are fake. So look at the seller's track record!

I agree with everyone's advice here. Also for different designers, there are different things to look for to see if it is authentic. However, it takes a pretty experienced eye to detect these so that's why you need tons of pics and specifically those areas that are major clues.
I'm pretty good at current Bottega, Tods and Balenciaga; mainly coz I have a few items from these brands and I researched it thoroughly before buying.
A genuine seller will send you all the photos you need

All the above tips are great.
When in doubt, please go to the thread that pertains to that particular designer and ASK for help with authentication. There are very nice people on this board who will try to help you out.

If we spot an obvious fake on ebay, is there any way to notify ebay without exposing our ebay id to the seller? If so, can you let me know how (I'm a newbie)?

Yes, you can report an auction to ebay. They have a form for it that you fill out after clicking the Report This Item link at the very bottom of the auction page. Ebay will know who reported it, but your identity is kept anonymous.

Actually spotting fakes is very tricky, as i learnt the hard way. I listed a designer wallet that i thought was 100% authentic. I researched it and to my eye it looked to be the real deal. the final bidder wanted additional pics so i sent her pics of every single spot on the wallet. unfortunately she found out it was fake, and i discovered about this forum only then. I refunded her entire money within 60 seconds of finding out and reported the item myself to ebay and paid for my listing fees and apologized to the bidder!!

I have decided to learn more about bags from this forum (the members have awesome comments and insights into what to look for!... and i am an enthusiastic learner) In the meantime i am going to stick to buying bags only at outlets or from someone who can show me a receipt for the item!!!

I love reading the blogs on this forum.. Thanks everyone!!!
