    Default What would you do?

What would you do if you won an auction and you were getting ready to pay $201.50 + $12.99 shipping and then out of nowhere there was a sales tax of $16.62!

So of course I went back to the listing and re-read it about a dozen times looking EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE in the auction that says ANYTHING about tacking on sales tax to CA residents or whatever... and find nothing.

It's not like the seller has a store or anything! They're not powersellers, they have less than 100 feedback (98 to be exact) since 2000.

It may sound lame that I'm making such a big deal over less than 20 bucks, but it's the fact that it NEVER stated ANYWHERE in the auction about it! That's what is pissing me off and questioning the whole thing. KWIM?

So I don't know what I should do? should I just pay the extra $16.62?

    What do you guys think?

    TIA

    That would definitely annoy me.
I would send them a nice email asking them where in the auction it states sales tax and perhaps they didn't change that from a previous auction?

That happened to me once too. Because the seller was from New York and so am I, she had to charge me a NY state sales tax. Even though her auction didn't specify it any where either. She didn't have a store or was a power seller either. When I asked why I was charged that she said it was because it was NY state law. I don't know if that is how the state of California works. But maybe that's why you were charged. Let us know how it works out.

Done...I think...Until I find something that catches my eye

I've bought so many things before from sellers in California and have not been charged tax. Some of them were more expensive too!

But maybe you're right... I'm still waiting for the seller to respond so we'll see what they say about it.

Ok, so I messaged the seller earlier today a polite message asking if they possibly made a mistake and that in the auction I could not find where it mentions any sales tax (etc, etc.) and the seller just sent me another invoice for the SAME FREAKIN' AMOUNT!!! In the message part it simply says: "PLEASE EMAIL ME BEFORE BIDDING IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIRMED AND VERIFIED BUYERS FROM PAYPAL OR NON US BUYERS"

I wouldn't mind so much about paying the extra $, but the fact that they're not even acknowledging my questioning it is seriously starting to piss me off! And they're already charging enough for shipping ($12.99) for such a small item, that does not weigh much, and with insurance NOT included (that's an extra $2.65). So $15.49 total? For $9.35 (actual shipping cost) and then I guess $6.14 handling? And $16.62 on top of that?! That's just pushing it, IMO.

S**t! Did that even make any sense?

I think I kinda lost myself there...

But my point is, now I really don't know what to do because I can't change the total amount through checkout, the seller won't resopond to my questions, and I don't feel I should have to pay anything extra that was not mentioned in the auction to begin with...

This is becoming such a headache!

I would have a hard time paying the extra tax they added on, especially since they are ignoring your questions, and not giving you an explanation of the charges. What jerks!!

You did the right thing by questioning the seller. I think it is so rude that she didn't respond back to you.

I wouldn't do business with them. If someone wants to charge you extra and doesn't have the decency to answer your query, then they don't deserve your money.

I wouldn't pay it if they aren't going to read your message, ever.

Hopefully the seller responds if they haven't seen the email yet, otherwise they might think you aren't going to respond (which isn't the case).

    I hope they reply SOON!
