Petition the school board to enact uniforms. Our district they can wear plain white polos, or school logo polos (convieniently available for purchase at the school board office as well as the uniform stores ran by students located in each Middle/Junior High/High school...); in the winter they can wear school logoed hoodies, or long sleeved white polos.
They have to wear khaki, black, or navy bottoms. They can't be above the knee, and they cannot sag. Shirts have to be tucked in, and no belts. Shoes have to be neutral in color with white or black laces only.
I spend like $250 on school clothes only because I like the kid to have nice things (I feel guilty their parents arent together and so I buy things to make myself feel better-selfish, yes...but the kid doesn't mind)
Uniform is strictly enforced too...one day the kid wore a plain grey polo and they sent them home to change!!! I had to beg them to let them stay until my lunch hour, since the school is less than three miles from my office and I didn't want to take personal time to get him (hubby was 2 hours away)
