I think he should have at least called as a courtesy and let you know that he was going to be late... But he could argue that you should have said bye when you left the first night...
I don't think you overreacted but I would be careful with the "teaching him a lesson" card...you don't want it to turn in to something you would totally regret and you don't want him to take it hat far either...
My ex and I were like that with each other and one day he thought he would teach me a lesson and so he packed his things and moved in with his best friend (a dude) ... I had enough so I filed for divorce and started dating my current husband... That was the best lesson he taught me!! Ha!
I wouldnt stress over it, just dont make revenge a habit
