As far as keeping your bag clean...

I know this is super anal, but I keep my dust bag inside my bags when I carry them. If it rains, I pull it out and cover it. When I travel, I put my dust bag on before it goes through security and when it is in an overhead compartment. That way I never worry.

Or if it is coat weather, I wrap my bag inside my coat or jacket while in a restaurant, etc.

Like I said, anal... but you know how frustrating it is to get your first mark on a new bag!
